Southwest Road Network Development, Bangladesh

BCL in a consortium with JOC (Japan) and WSA (USA) was responsible for design review and updating contract administration and supervision of construction of the 165 km long Dhaka-Khulna Highway (NH-8) with more than 200 bridge structures including the 450 m long Shah Shariat Ullah bridge over Arial Khan river. A large section of the road under contract 3, 4 and 5 was built over soft partially decomposed sub soil with special soil consolidation by preloading. Later the implementation and monitoring of social action plan for resettlement and poverty alleviation and Project Benefit Monitoring and Evaluation was conducted. The project was implanted with funding from ADB-OPEC. In earlier stage of the study and design phase under the Third Road Improvement Project the same consultants consortium conducted the feasibility study and detail design including assistance to engagement of contractors.
